Kosong Sen - Gravity Bone

Gravity Bone is a first person adventure game that is based on the trusty old Quake 2 engine. First off, the game is really short. It feels more like a demo rather than a full game. 30 minutes tops. Don't let that discourage you though. Developed by Brendon Chung, Gravity Bone is offbeat, funny, odd, fascinating, stylish, and memorable.

The first thing that stands out from the game when you first start it is the art style. Gravity Bone has blocky cube like characters that is a brilliant work around an old engine(makes it look great). The colours are bright and geometry is simple. The environment exudes a spy film like ambiance(similar to an Austin Powers flick) without being campy.

The music in the game compliments the art style to a tee. Cheery and elevator music like(in a good way) with horns blaring, it adds to the overarching ambiance. Characters talk in muffled gibberish, drink a lot of cocktail and smoke.

Gravity Bone is about you playing as a super secret international spy. Suave, charming and agile like a ninja(or a quake bot), you must make your way across the level to complete your objective and safely make your way to the exit.

There really is not much for me to write about other than you MUST try out this game. It's really short the more I write about it, the more I will spoil the experience for you.

The ending is cool and unique. It kind of underlines the flaw with our entertainment medias representation of spies/police as super agents that are invulnerable. It also does the whole narrative in game thing like Half Life does. A definite must play!

Tell me what you think about the ending...

  1. This game's really different! It looks kinda weird because of its square-faced characters, but it definitely looks interesting to play. This deserves a try.
