Four New Spore Titles Announced for DS, Wii and PC

Maxis announced a bunch of new Spore spin off titles today in a Maxis press event. Two DS titles, one called Spore Creature Keeper(sort of a My Sims tamagotchi like hybrid) and Spore Hero Arena that ties in with a Wii title called Spore Hero. According to Kotaku:(preview of galactic adventures and video below)

There wasn’t actual gameplay footage for Arena, but Spore Hero looks to be an adventure game where you create your own creature to guide through a preset world and plotline. These games are slated for a Fall 2009 release.

They released more info about Spore Galactic Adventures.

The next big bang for Spore on PC comes this spring with the deeply immersive and customizable expansion pack, Spore Galactic Adventures. Spore Galactic Adventures adds a tremendous amount of variety and depth to the original “space game” in Spore, allowing players to beam down to planets, play mission-based adventures and even create their own customized adventures for the first time.

Each adventure has a unique reward to upgrade a space creature with special accessories – from an Energy Blade and Stunning Charm to a Jump Jet and more. Players can fight their way to victory as a Warrior, dance with new friends as a Bard, and much more.

With an almost unlimited number of user created adventures, there’s more to play than ever before. The “adventure creator” in Spore Galactic Adventures gives gamers the tools to make their own missions and share them with friends via www.spore.com.

The new expansion pack adds more gameplay depth to the space stage. Question is, how much more? It will be interesting to see the new features, but I have a sneaking suspicion this isn't going to satisfy those fans that want more depth.

This however sounds interesting:

"In Spore, you were able to create things like castle pieces and use them in the civ game, but now they can actually build a castle with a moat and all types of elaborate gates and doors," said Roarty. "That castle you created can be the background of a new adventure, since we're allowing players to create their own videogames."

bigdownload.com highlighted that the expansion will allow players to build level from a video game just like Little Big Planet.

That's right. Taking a page out of LittleBigPlanet, this new expansion pack will offer gamers an assortment of tools to not only build worlds, but create a variety of different videogames. Roarty said the tools include everything needed for multiple-act adventure games, classic side-scrolling platform games and objective-based games.

"You can create goals to drive players through these games and they can be anything from capture a flag to destroy a fortress to talking to an NPC," said Roarty. "We've set up power-ups, gates you run through, teleporters, and all of these classic gamer things. The gamers' are going to get a lot more out of Spore because there's going to be a wider array of games to create and play."

That sounds a lot better. I'm for once excited to see this feature. I'm cautiously optimistic. Kotaku has an update impression that details a new planet creation tool. Yes apparently, you can now build your own planets:

Well, all that changes with Galactic Adventures. Players can pick a base planet and do just about anything they want to its surface. Using a series of sliders, you can make a snow world or a lava world – or a world with only 15% landmass. Aside from terrain, you can also change the color of the sky and the ground, alter the atmosphere so it’s more likely to storm, and throw down paved roads or mountain peaks wherever you want.

A feature that was supposed to have been in the original game.
