This Week's Gaming - More Battlefield 3

So I finally got my hands on Battlefield 3. It's good but... problematic. It's not been a trouble free launch to be precisely honest with you. Some people reporting server issues(which I've not experienced), CTD's, certain graphic cards performing like crap, flickering textures, corrupted shadows. But how's the game?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Weapon Progression Trailer

Battlefield 3... I mean Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 offers quite a bit of weapons for all you gun nuts. They've released a video showing some of these stuff. Now, you also level up your weapons. Watch the video below...

Assassin's Creed Revelations Den Defence Trailer - What's This? Tower Defence?

So what's Ezio up to now? He's apparently defending a tower... erm I mean a den, an Assassin's Den. This looks surprisingly like a tower defence segment in the game. Interesting. I've also included some other new videos I didn't notice were out below, check them all out(The game has been delayed to December 2nd for the PC)...

Sword of The Stars II Release Trailer

Kerberos Productions Sword of The Stars II is releasing on today(any time now). It promises to be more epic and pretty compared to the original with the threat of a new alien race. Check out the release trailer below...

Pirates of Black Cove Review

Pirates of Black Cove is a bit of a departure for developers Nitro Games(they've done an arcadey casual game prior to this once), who are mostly known for making naval trading & battles in a strategy game. PoBC is a mish mash of a game, taking features from a few different genres trying to make a unique spin off of a naval game. Firstly, it wouldn't come as any surprise.... you play as a pirate.

Crusader Kings II Developer Walkthrough Videos

Paradox Interactive broadcasted live a play through of the upcoming Crusader Kings II. It's the sequel to Crusader Kings, a character driven grand strategy game where you take control of a family in the royal courts of Europe and vie to make your family lineage the greatest royal family ever! Producer Johan Andersson talks us through the game. It's one hour(split into five youtube videos), so grab something to bite... oh and skip to about 10 minutes in the first part since...testing....testing...testing... Videos below...

Need For Speed: The Run 'Lonely Boy' Trailer

EA BlackBox's Need For Speed: The Run is approaching release(18th November). The Frostbite 2 powered racing game tries to blend fast frantic arcadey racing with an engaging storyline. It's audacious but will it finally be a worthy hit? New trailer below...

Magicka: The Stars Are Left Announced!

Magicka was definitely one of my favourite small developer titles in recent time. Despite the bugs at launch, it has managed to stay fresh with it's charming humour and new maps that continue to challenge players. You'll need a good group of 4 players to take on most of the mission(until you've found that overpowering magick that you'll be abusing most of the time). Paradox today announced an expansion, The Star Are Left. It adds a bunch of new levels in a new adventure which promises "players to get lost in space and time". It's due out this Winter so not too long before we get some real content for Magicka. Hurrah! Trailer and press release after the jump...

Anno 2070 Multiplayer Trailer

The futuristic spin off of the Anno series, Anno 2070 isn't just a single player experience. There's a robust online feature that includes a hub world of sorts(called the arc) and even a 8 player multiplayer mode. Game's out on November 17th. Check out the trailer below...

Total Biscuit Takes A Look At Dota 2 - Gameplay Footage

If you aren't in the Dota 2 beta(let's face it, it's very exclusive at the moment), here's some nice gameplay footage of Dota 2, brought by the cynical brit, Total Biscuit. Dota 2 looks like it will focus on the competitive aspect quite a bit as TB explains they have an entire roster of links to coaching options, a Dota 2 TV(watch online matches), and a host of community features that will make this, one of the, if not the best online gaming experiences(minus the trolls and griefers). Watch Total Biscuit's early look at Dota 2 below...

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Co-op Mode DLC Released For Free

Relic's third person action title, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine was a decent entry from Relic into a genre it is new in(Relic are primarily an RTS developer). They've now released a 4 player Co-op mode as a DLC.... wait for it... free for PC gamers. You can now play with your friends together in the existing co-op mode(think Gears of Wars horde mode, defending against waves of enemies), Leo did a first play video of Space Marine(demo) which you can watch it here. Check out the trailer released for the co-op mode after the jump(and yes, your progress in this mode carries over to the multiplayer mode)...

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim System Requirements Announced

The fifth game in the Elder Scrolls game seems to be just as epic and time sucking(expect to spend a lot of time exploring) as the previous games in the series. Bethesda has released the system requirements for the PC version. If you've been worried about it busting up your PC, you can rest easy. Most people should have a system that would be able to run it well these days. Of course like most PC games these days, requires internet connection for activation(this is a Steam game). System requirement after the break...

Grand Theft Auto V Announced - Lets Hope Rockstar Surprises PC Gamers

We sort of knew Rockstar was working on this... I mean one of the best selling game franchise ever, so why wouldn't they? Rockstar unveiled Grand Theft Auto V a static image on their website. While there's no info on much of the game, rumour surfaced earlier this year when a voice actor revealed that the game was to be set in Hollywood(or a representation of it). Rockstar are going to be releasing a debut trailer in a weeks time (2nd November), so mark your calenders. Unfortunately, from what I've heard from them(and their insistence on not bringing Red Dead Redemption to the PC), it is likely there wont be a PC version at launch(which should be late next year). A PC port is likely but we'll probably have to wait for a while.... again. But I hope they surprise us PC gamers. Watch out for news on GTA 5.

The Software Boutique Malaysian Battlefield 3 Launch

I was over at The Software Boutique at about 8.45 pm yesterday. The occasion, the launch of Battlefield 3. It's been about 6 long years since the last proper Battlefield game, so understandably, PC gamers are excited over the prospect of immense maps and the 'Battlefield experience'. Consider Battlefield Bad Company 2 as a teaser to the true Battlefield experience. This is Battlefield!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Footage & Todd Howard Interview

Gametrailers TV did a feature on Skyrim for the latest GTTV episode(aired on Friday). It had new gameplay footage and Bethesda man, Todd Howard talking about the project. I've embedded a Youtube video for you guys because we all know how awful the Gametrailers video player is. So without further ado, enjoy...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Launch Trailer - Finding Makarov

It's Activision's turn to dazzle with a launch trailer. They've released a launch trailer despite it being a November 8th release. Well I suppose they've got to compete with Battlefield 3. Not sure if the release of this trailer(the timing) has anything to do with the Battlefield 3 release. Trailer after the jump...

Diablo III Black Soulstone Cinematic Is Proof That Blizzard Is King Of CG Cinematics

New cinematic trailer for Diablo III. It's masterclass Blizzard stuff. Never really followed the story arc for Diablo but this one seems to involve a young lass called Leah who is the niece of one Deckard Cain. She looks like she might be in a little trouble shall we say. Watch the trailer below...

Blizzard Teases StarCraft II: Heart of The Swarm With Preview Trailer

Blizzcon = a tonne of new media on Blizzard's upcoming games. The expansion to StarCraft II, Heart of The Swarm has gotten a preview trailer. Kerrigan isn't still exactly like human like. She still has the Zerg in her. The expansion will have the Zerg as the main playable race in the campaign and will introduce new units for the Zerg brood. By the way, this will not be a standalone expansion as Blizzard wanted it to be as they first revealed it. You'll need the base StarCraft II game. Watch the trailer below...

Blizzard Announces Yet Another Expansion For World of Warcraft - Preview Trailer Up

Life sucking MMORPG, World of Warcraft is getting yet another expansion pack. Blizzard announced in the opening of Blizzcon that World of Warcraft: Mist of Pandaria will be making some big class changes(a new neutral race, Pandaren and a new class, Monk) and will also be adding a pokemon like pet battle system. Very very devious Blizzard. As with any Blizzard title, no release date announced, my guess would be late next year. Check out the preview trailer Blizzard released below...

Battlefield 3 Launch Trailer Rachets Up The Drama

There's a captured soldier and a nuke, how worse can it get. Battlefield 3 single player looks like it might be trying to do a Call of Duty. I just hope the story doesn't get ridiculous. Launch trailer in 3.... 2....1....

Introversion's New Title Revealed - Prison Architect

While the news of the cancellation of Subversion broke, Introversion were in development of a new title. We now know that the new game is called Prison Architect. PC Gamer got the exclusive on the reveal and described it as a game where "you build and manage a maximum security prison". Awesome! A tycoon game. Can't wait to here more about this one. Hopefully this one will actually be released :P

Doom 4 Rumoured To Have Been Put On Hold

Latest reports from Kotaku seems to suggest that Id has put the development of Doom 4 on hold. Kotaku claims that this is from an insider, so this cannot be verified. Id apparently decided to put it on hold after the poor reviews for Rage. A rather extreme move just because of reviews for a game. Doom 4 was reported to not be using Id Tech 5(the engine powering Rage) and I can probably speculate that it would be a lot more traditional than Rage(which has the whole town and questing thingie). If this rumour is to be believed there would be a management change within Id. We'll have to wait and see if there is any truth to this rumour for now.

Introversions Subversion Put On Hold

The heist tactical game, Subversion, from Introversion has been put on hold indefinitely. Which means it has been canceled... for now. It doesn't mean that Introversion won't go back to it later but for now, it's no longer in their plans. Which is a shame since it's one of those old school tactical games that is becoming exceedingly rare. Too bad. Read the news on the official forums. They,re working on a new title that has been submitted for the IGF awards. No news abot this new mysteriously game.

No idea what is the legacy of Syndicate? EA has released this trailer just for you, detailing the old Syndicate and what to expect with the new FPS game due out next year. GeForce LAN 6 Event - Battlefield 3 Footage And Developer Interview

NVIDIA recently had this crazy LAN event on an aircraft carrier. Pocket Change - Weekend Deals

The THQ catalogue sales on Steam is coming to an end. The final game discounted is the Dawn of War series, a rather good RTS franchise. There's also Men of War: Assault Squad on sale on GamersGate which I highly recommend if you love your WW2 tanks and intense tactical battles. Deals of the week below...

The Secret World Developer Video Diary Talks About The Secret War

Funcom released a new video developer diary explaining the idea behind The Secret World. It's giving PvP a new spin, coating it in a global player influenced conflict for global dominance. Sounds interesting even if there's been a few games that have tried to do this(but mainly they've been mostly MMO action games rather than a typical RPG). Watch the video below...

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic Signs of War Trailer

Can't have enough of SWTOR trailers? Here, have another one. EA's put out another trailer(this one's a gameplay trailer) for the upcoming Bioware MMORPG. It's not too long now for the release. Deus Ex: Human Revolution Missing Link DLC Will Cost You USD$14.99

The upcoming DLC for Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been priced and dated. It's USD$14.99 and releasing on October 18th on Steam. It isn't exactly a new story but you can think of it as a side story of sorts. You'll still be playing as Adam Jensen but you've lost all your augmentations and must somehow retrieve all of them back and exact revenge on those that did this to you(you start off being beat up and tortured). You can watch walkthrough video Eidos did, here.

Here's Some Syndicate Single Player Gameplay Walkthrough - Executive Search

You've heard of the EA revival of the Syndicate franchise(into an FPS no less), now you can see in moving picture. Thanks to RPS for spotting this. It's... futuristic and well...Deus Ex like. Memoir 44 Online Available On Steam

The classic board game from Days of Wonder has had an online version for quite sometime(it was in beta and invite only). But now... they open the doors in a big way... it's on Steam! and it's free to play! Of course the catch is... it's not really free to play. There's these gold ingot things(which you get 50 of these for free) which are in game currency you purchase to continue playing the game. This is more like a demo. For those not in the know, Memoir 44 is a very popular board game that isn't very gronardy(I mean it doesn't require infinite knowledge on any complex game systems) and is very accessible. Most of the time it's two players against each other with a set of cards and lots of dice rolls to decide hit or miss etc. It's quite a fun game. You can try Memoir 44 on Steam here

Space Pirates And Zombies First Play

What the heck is SPAZ? Space Pirates And Zombies is a top down elite like space ship RPG. Yes I mean Space ship RPG. You gain experience, upgrade your science research and ships. There are no ship romance or dialogue like in any other erm... Bioware style RPG... well okay so this isn't really an RPG but... you got to watch the video to understand just what the hect SPAZ is. Videos below...

UPDATE Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Confirmed! Coop Multiplayer Mission Detailed

UPDATE 2: In a post on the official forums, Chris Priestly detailed the new 4 player coop multiplayer mode titled "Galaxy At War". The new coop mode will have affect the single player campaign in a subtle way. How you play this coop mode will play into effect in a level called Galactic Readiness level in the single player campaign. Bioware maintains that you can still play a complete single player campaign without playing the coop game(it is not exactly game changing but as I said, the affects are subtle). You do not play as any of the main characters or companion from the single player campaign so the storyline is quite separate but related in the grand scheme of things. My guess is you'll be playing as a bunch of soldiers helping to steam the tide of the reapers? You can read the full FAQ posted on the forums here

UPDATE: Bioware has confirmed that there will be multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. Producer Casey Hudson added on Twitter that there will be a coop multiplayer mode. "Yes, co-op MP missions for #ME3: they’re real, and they’re spectacular. Rest assured it’s nothing of what you’ve feared. More soon…" he said. More info on this mode should be coming soon so keep an eye out for them.

An Australian PC Mag seems to have indicated that Mass Effect 3 will introduce a multiplayer mode, a first for Bioware who are well known for developing some of the best RPG games(which are single player games). The mag outed multiplayer by advertising their next cover which had the word "Fight alongside your friends as the galaxy goes to war!". The website for the mag also clearly states "That’s right – Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer! We travel to BioWare’s office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series’ first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy,". Okay so it's 99% confirmed... unless the magazine is doing some sort of joke with its cover story.

This Week's Gaming - Rage Worthy

So apart from my on going Deus Ex: Human Revolution Game, there's basically one new game for me this week. That's RAGE! or is it RaGE! or Rage?! Whatever... RAAAAAAGE

Rage Patch Released - Still Rage Inducing?

Having problems with rage? Have You been raging over rage? Well the latest update might just fix your issues(or maybe it won't). Those with AMD(ATI) card will be pleased to note that Id has created a work around the crash after intro screen on Win 7 32bit. They've also added a few new graphical option in the video menu(Rage on launch for the PC didn't really have any graphics options setting other than resolution, AA and GPU transcoding) including Vsync! Yes you... you with the screen tearing, your fix is here but there's a catch. Due to the way how the game works(and is locked at 60fps), Vsync might cause a few hitches. Read the change log to find out exactly what I mean...

What's This About STALKER 2 Requiring Constant Net Connection?

Those bloodhounds over at RPS spotted that a GSC GameWorld Studio Director, Sergey Grigorovich said in response to a question regarding piracy that STALKER 2 will require an Internet connection as parts of the game will be on a server and players will need to be online so that the game streams to their local machine. SAY WHAT?! "Text information, code and quests will be loaded through that connection.". I know that with Blizzard paving the way for online always games, we can perhaps expect to see other companies trying to tag along Blizzard strategy. But I do not like this trend at all. RPS has inquired GSC GameWorld regarding this for confirmation. Will update this post as more info surfaces.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Redemption Single Player Trailer - It's Explosive!

If you think Battlefield 3 has been getting a lot of press attention lately, you'd be right. With the beta in action and release approaching closer, Activision's juggernaut, Modern Warfare 3 has been a little quiet lately. Here's a new trailer they just released. Called the redemption trailer, it's a mish mash of footage from the single player portion. It... looks good. But I've never been a fan of the ridiculous over the top story. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out on November 8th. Watch the trailer below..
