Rage Review - 7 Years On, Id Is Back!

So it's finally out! The next game from the PC gaming classic studio, Id Software, has finally been released after years of teasing and QuakeCon talks from John Carmack. Well known for making technically cutting edge engines and the studio that popularised first person shooters. Welcome back Id! It's been a long time!

Rage Patch Released - Still Rage Inducing?

Having problems with rage? Have You been raging over rage? Well the latest update might just fix your issues(or maybe it won't). Those with AMD(ATI) card will be pleased to note that Id has created a work around the crash after intro screen on Win 7 32bit. They've also added a few new graphical option in the video menu(Rage on launch for the PC didn't really have any graphics options setting other than resolution, AA and GPU transcoding) including Vsync! Yes you... you with the screen tearing, your fix is here but there's a catch. Due to the way how the game works(and is locked at 60fps), Vsync might cause a few hitches. Read the change log to find out exactly what I mean...

Want To Unlock High Res Textures For Rage?

Apparently there are two higher texture resolution options locked in the game. An article on Geforce.com explains that to unlock high res textures, you'll need a graphic card with 1.5GB of VRAM. There's even a higher res option than that but will require 3GB of VRAM. Based on reports, the game barely goes below the much touted 60fps(but you'll need a graphic card that'll be able to put in the work of course). Go here and read the instructions.... it requires some editing of the config files.

New Rage Trailer Shows A Bandit Hideout

It's very very close now. Rage is about to be release(October 4th) and we've got another trailer showing a bit more of the game. I got to respect Id for not beating around the bush with their marketing and just showing off the game. There's some pretty cool weapons in Rage. Trailer below...

Rage Wasteland Legends Coop Mode Trailer - Id Demonstrates The Game With A Partner

Yes... Rage does indeed have a coop mode. It's two player coop going through some of the game intense combat areas. They showed this section of the game(called Water Service) in one of the trailer they've released this year in single player mode. This time you get to see it in 2 player coop mode. Seems that some sections are a bit corridorey and narrow for 2 players. Rage releases on October 4th. Watch the trailer below...

Rage System Requirements Up - It's Not Too Bad

Are you afraid Id's next technical masterpiece is going to kill your PC? Are you waiting for the system requirements to figure out what to upgrade? Well, you can rest easy... well sort of. It's not too bad. The game requires a whopping 25GB of your Hard Disk space! Graphics card wise, it is reccomended you at least have an NVIDIA 9800GTX or an AMD HD5500. Which aren't exactly the latest top of the line cards. Id has been really adamant at making sure the game runs at 60 frames per second. And yes... Id has said they'd be interested in releasing a high res pack update on the PC if reception for the game is good. A reminder, Rage is a Steamworks game and has been rumoured to have some mysterious locked vaults that you'll be able to access only if you purchased a new copy(of course purchasing it on Steam counts as a new copy). System requirements below...

In the final part of the behind the scenes series of videos for Rage, Id Software folks talk about the creation of Rage. Not too much longer now... Rage releases October 4th. Will the game be worth enduring through the agonising wait for its release? So far indication shows that it should be. Lots of positive impressions from the many hands on previews of the game. Rage Behind The Scenes Video Part 5 - The Enemies

Part 5 of the Rage behind the scenes video is here. This time the developers from Id Software talk about the enemies you'll face in the upcoming shooter. Different enemies have different combat style and you'll have to reconsider how you tackle them. I've said this before... the animation system looks amazing. Looks like a huge step up from most first person shooters. Rage is due out on 4th October this year. Watch the video below...

Rage Behind The Scenes Video Diary - The Wasteland

Id devs go behind the camera yet again to talk about Id's long awaited Rage. This time, they talk about the wasteland, the citizens in this post apocalyptic world and what you can expect to find in its harsh environment. Rage Behind The Scenes Developer Video - The Arsenal

A big thing in id software games are the weapons. Well, I suppose you could say that for any first person shooter these days. But id games always have a tonne of fun to use weapons in your arsenal. The devs go through what you'll get to use in Rage. Does the game feel weird with iron sights introduced in an id shooter? Well personally from what I've seen, I don't think so. But final judgement when the game releases on October 4th. Developer video below...

The Rage behind the scenes trailer is back! This time focusing on earth and what has happened in the Rage. Post apocalyptic stuff… quite similar to Fallout frankly(except it was an asteroid which did Earth in and not nukes). Watch the latest trailer below…

Rage ‘The Well’ Gameplay Trailer - Questing In An id Game?

Rage is looking mighty fine. The latest trailer from id Software shows a portion of the single player campaign(a good 7 minute trailer), in particular a mission called The Well. It’s a bit of gameplay they’ve showed before at last year’s E3 but this time more fleshed out and the animation system looks very impressive now. Rage releases on September 13th. Gameplay trailer below…

Rage Will Ship With Modding Tools - Modders Rejoice

Despite John Carmack’s reservations in the past about modding tools for games in the future( he has said that with game engines getting a lot more complex, the bedroom modder will just not have the resources to mod games… I’m paraphrasing), Rage will ship with modding tools and a level editor for the PC. Creative Director Tim Willits revealed to PC Gamer that even though ‘building levels from scratch is more difficult’, you’ll still have the full suite id used.He explained “because we have a layer system in some of the levels. I can foresee somebody modding up Wellspring (a town in-game) and adding different characters, giving them different voice-over.” But if you’ve got the development skills to use it, the level editor will be there. “It’s built into the engine”. Good to see they haven’t given up on an id tradition.

Rage Trailer Hits The Internet - Apophis, A Post Apocalyptic Cowboy Planet

UPDATE: The trailer is back up!

A new Rage trailer has hit the interwebs. The trailer shows bits of gameplay with some appropriate music with a cowboy twang on it. Makes sense. Post apocalyptic Apophis(the world the game is set on) is a lawless cowboy town. And the sheriffs got just the right man for the job…you. Trailer below…

RAGE QuakeCon 2009 Trailer

Id Software’s next technical master piece hasn’t  been shown much to the public. Today a new trailer for RAGE was revealed at this years QuakeCon. This is about the only other gameplay footage for the public. Some in the press were given private demo of the game. But no luck for us yet.
