Planescape Torment Sequel Talk - Designer of The Classic Keen To Make A New Planescape

Colin McComb, one of the key designers previously from Black Isle Studios(now at InXile) has just finished most of his tasks with Wasteland 2 and in a blog post stated his interest on working on a new Planescape Torment game. Planscape Torment was a critically acclaimed RPG using the AD&D rule set using the Bioware Infinity engine(the one used for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II). What made Planescape different from the Bioware games was that it told a more personal story with more fleshed out characters. Oh and death isn't the end of the game, which was revolutionary for video games(and it fit perfectly into the narrative). You can read my retrospective piece on Planescape Torment here.

Colin stated that he and Chris Avellone(lead designer of Planescape and now at Obsidian Entertainment) were keen to revisit the setting and perhaps would think of using a different rule set and telling a new story. "My primary goal would be to help the player tell a story that was evocative of the original Torment without aping it. To be faithful to the odyssey of the Nameless One, and to recognize that it has ended, and that stories of Torment are ongoing" he said. While the rights belong to Wizards of The Coast, they might be able to pull it off without using the Planescape setting(Planescape is in the Dungeons & Dragons universe). He hoped fans would back him to make a new Planescape Torment without it being set in the D&D world. I really would like to see this happen. For now, it's all just theoretical talk.
