UPDATE Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Confirmed! Coop Multiplayer Mission Detailed

UPDATE 2: In a post on the official forums, Chris Priestly detailed the new 4 player coop multiplayer mode titled "Galaxy At War". The new coop mode will have affect the single player campaign in a subtle way. How you play this coop mode will play into effect in a level called Galactic Readiness level in the single player campaign. Bioware maintains that you can still play a complete single player campaign without playing the coop game(it is not exactly game changing but as I said, the affects are subtle). You do not play as any of the main characters or companion from the single player campaign so the storyline is quite separate but related in the grand scheme of things. My guess is you'll be playing as a bunch of soldiers helping to steam the tide of the reapers? You can read the full FAQ posted on the forums here

UPDATE: Bioware has confirmed that there will be multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. Producer Casey Hudson added on Twitter that there will be a coop multiplayer mode. "Yes, co-op MP missions for #ME3: they’re real, and they’re spectacular. Rest assured it’s nothing of what you’ve feared. More soon…" he said. More info on this mode should be coming soon so keep an eye out for them.

An Australian PC Mag seems to have indicated that Mass Effect 3 will introduce a multiplayer mode, a first for Bioware who are well known for developing some of the best RPG games(which are single player games). The mag outed multiplayer by advertising their next cover which had the word "Fight alongside your friends as the galaxy goes to war!". The website for the mag also clearly states "That’s right – Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer! We travel to BioWare’s office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series’ first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy,". Okay so it's 99% confirmed... unless the magazine is doing some sort of joke with its cover story.
