IGN Gobbles Up 1UP Network - UGO Apparently Sold
There’s been some consolidation with the gaming media over in North America for years now. It looks like another chapter is about to close as news spreads that IGN has bought over UGO, the owners of the 1UP network. Venturebeat reports that once the merger is complete, IGN is likely to spin out from News Corp(which it currently runs under) and set up as it’s own entity. IGN has been very profitable as a site over the years. The article claims it should be making 10 million dollar profits although it’s uncertain how much of this is solely from Direct2Drive(a digital distribution network that is owned by IGN). Sad news. 1UP was an interesting site with a lot of good writers who wrote interesting features(and maybe sometimes not so interesting features). And IGN is…well… IGN and their main feature is babe of the week…yeah… No official confirmation on the fate of 1UP though.
