This Week’s Gaming - Slow Week But Good Opportunity To Try Some Interesting PC Games

With the big releases over from March and early April, first week of May is rather, uneventful. But I have access to a few indie and free to play games that I will be trying out over the week. Leo will of course be trying Darkspore, if his computer problems don’t persist.

Capsized
I have a copy of Capsized, an indie 2D platformer by Alientrap Games. It’s a very pretty 2D platformer with a lot of exploration, puzzle solving and combat. Will be giving this one a spin and my review should be out this week.

Age of Empires Online
As a fan of Age of Empires II: Age of Kings, I’ve always had a certain nostalgia for the Age of Empires series. With news that Age of Empires online would be a free to play online variant of AoE, I was quite sceptical. I’m in the closed beta(the games not out till end of the year) and will be playing this. Might have impressions by the end of the week. It has a lot of things from social games and other browser games(it isn't really either, it is a proper game) but they have managed to remove the annoying aspects of them... at least from my very short time playing it so far.

Rise of the Immortals
Another free to play game, but this one an arena based PvP game. Leo played a little of this and says he wasn’t so impressed by it. He prefers Bloodlines Champions(a lot of people has had good things to say about that game). But this is from Petroglyph(a studio formed by former Westwood people), so I have to give this one a try. Not really my kind of thing, but willing to try it out to see if is any good.

Darkspore
Leo’s been busy last week. He was busy building his PC(new PC) and hopefully things go well and he’ll have his PC up and running. He might be able to play Darkspore this week.

Total War: Shogun 2
It’s nice to see in a Total War game, your allies actually gaining territory. Heck even my vassal went on the offensive and gained a region for itself. Pleasant surprise. Been playing this for weeks and my impression is positive. I think this is a good entry from Creative Assembly. While I think there is definitely less diversity in units and factions, it a much better and more tighter strategic experience. Strategic AI much more aggressive. Will start writing my review end of this week. Game diary part 4 will continue maybe in the coming weekend. Almost close to mid game, I find the single player game still holding my attention. I would try the multiplayer mode a lot more if I didn't have a game diary up. But that's pretty good by itself.
