Valve Left For Dead? - Turtle Rock Goes With THQ For Their Next Project
Turtle Rock Studios was the guys that brought to you Left 4 Dead. Operating as an independent company, Turtle Rock Studios as well (as the Left 4 Dead IP) got acquired by Valve, their publisher for the game. They went with the name of Valve South. However, due to some unknown reason, they left Valve just after the launch of Left 4 Dead and reformed themselves as an independent studio. THQ announced that they will be publishing Turtle Rock Studios next title that is due out in 2013. No info on this new title other than it is ‘set to make a similar impact in the multiplayer space’. Valve announced back in May 2010 that Turtle Rock were linking up with Valve to work on a new game. There hasn’t been any update on the status of that project(although Turtle Rock has worked on recent Left 4 Dead DLC’s). I’m guessing whatever they had with Valve has fallen through. Exactly what went on behind the scene with Valve and Turtle Rock… we’ll never know.

It's kinda weird to read this since Valve has been known to assimilate (for lack of better term) indie / promising developers & bring their games to a whole new level. Case in point, the Portal series & the upcoming DotA 2.
ReplyDeleteWhatever they do, I hope we'll see more quality games from both parties in the near future.
