Joystiq reported that Need For Speed World Online will go into testing phase in March for Hong Kong and Taiwan. This new free to play Need For Speed is an experiment and Asia will get to test it out first. It is unclear whether it will be an open beta(most probably closed) and whether it will be opened to other countries later on.
EA explains that Need for Speed: World Online will boast "the largest free roaming environment" in the series' history as players "form teams to take on the competition and the police."
Hopefully we'll get a hands on soon enough to see whether this is a revival of the franchise. It's odd to see EA CEO Riciteillo admitting the NFS franchise needs to focus on quality, only for EA to announce a whole host of new NFS titles. We will wait and see before commenting further.
