Does the number 33 million astonish you? That’s roughly how much Minecraft generated in cold hard US dollars based on sales numbers. Gamasutra did some maths and based on 800,000 units sold for the alpha version and now over 1 million for the beta version and came up with the projected revenue. For a guy working on a Java based game, that’s a whole lot of money. Minecraft has a stats page which you can view for yourself how many people have bought the game. To give you some indication of just how much and how fast the game is selling, in the last 24 hours, 9881 people bought the game. Wow, just wow. Keep making awesome games Mojang!
