UPDATE: EA has reopened the open beta. You can now download the open beta client here. The open beta this time does not use Steamworks. It will be up until April 22nd. Darkspore will be out on April 26th.
EA Maxis Darkspore is now available in open beta form. You can download and play it on Steam. If you haven’t read my preview, Darkspore is not in any way related to Spore other than a customise your own Spore hero tool which inherits the core of the creature creator from Spore. It has loot, customising multiple Spore hero(I think they are called crogenitors or something), online coop and such. I wasn’t particularly impressed. Seems solid enough though. The open beta ends this Friday(which is rather odd) so you’ll need to download it and play it in this short window. Darkspore release on April 28th.
