GDC 2011: Minecraft Wins IGF Grand Prize
The game that can only be describe as a phenomenon, Minecraft, has won the Independent Gaming Festivals Seumas McNally Grand Prize. Can’t say I’m surprised. It is one of the most successful indie games in history by now. Minecraft also won the audience award( which I suppose is voted by the audience). Other notable winners include Amnesia The Dark Descent from Frictional Games, winning excellence in Audio, technical excellence, and Direct2Drive Vision award. The student award was won by Richard E Flanagan(University of Montreal) for the Game FRACT. This category winners are one to watch as last years winner went on to Valve to work with them on Portal 2. Desktop Dungeon from QCF Design won excellence in design. I’ll be checking these games out(FRACT and Desktop Dungeon), they both look rather good.
