GDC 2011: Will Wright Making Games That Get People Involved In The World
Gamasutra wrote a summary of a Will Wright panel in this year GDC(his talks are always a highlight of GDC every year). He revealed he was working on some game that will be more for the mobile web connected games. He said “I’m really interested in games that get people involved in the world rather than distracting them from it”. I think he was referring to the current generation of mobile games that do that(it is true, I have to admit). Which leads me to believe that maybe his project could be some sort of augmented reality game? An augmented reality game basically analyses the environment(with a device that has a camera) and adds something else that adds gameplay elements to the world. Maybe it could be something else. His talk at GDC 2011 focused on his first game, Raid on Bungeling Bay, and the shocking fact…the game(released in 1984) sold a whopping 800,000 units on the NES! Wow, just wow!
