Magicka Vietnam Gets Release Date And Price Point
Arrowhead Games crazy downloadable expansion, Magicka Vietnam has a rel4ease date. You wont have to wait very long for it. It’ll be out on April 12th and priced at USD$4.99. That’s an absolute steal. Magicka is an incredibly fun and addictive coop game and Magicka Vietnam will be adding new weapons, staffs, and all new assets. And hey, it’s set in Vietnam. On top of that, you'll apparently be able to play Vietnam even if you don't own it. As long as the person hosting the game owns Magicka Vietnam. Now that's a first! Every game needs a Vietnam expansion. I’ve posted four new screenshots of Magicka Vietnam below…

Fable III Minimum Requirements Out - It’s Quite Lenient
IGN has posted the minimum and recommended specs for the upcoming PC port of Fable III. Still set for a May 17th release, the PC version will introduce a Hardcore difficulty setting. Early rumours suggested Microsoft was working the Kinect technology into the Fable III PC port. Lionhead has declined to comment on this rumour in the past and it seems it might not really be true at all. System requirements below…
Hawken Gameplay Trailer - This Time It’s Official
Remember that awesome trailer of this indie mech game I posted sometime back? Adhesive Games, the indie studio behind this mechtactic Unreal engine game has release the first proper gameplay trailer for Hawken. There are turrets that you can build on certain points on the map and some sort of giant drop ship which is like a Call of Duty kill streak? Maybe. Still looks quite amazing. No release date yet. Feast your eyes on the trailer below…

Crysis 2 Review - Maximum Intensity
What an interesting month March has been. I’ve had the opportunity to review two games incidentally published by EA back to back that has a lot in common. And yet they are completely different genres. The two games I meant are Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2. Both games similar in the sense that the developer has taken a very different design goal for a sequel. With Crysis 2, Crytek aimed to bring the Crysis experience to consoles and some things needed to be changed. Crytek has in a sense managed to build basically ‘Crysis in a box’ with Crysis 2 while maintaining the core aspects that made Crysis special(in the minds of the developer at least). Does Crysis 2 live up to the its name sake?
UPDATE Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City Announced - Now With Teaser Trailer
UPDATE: Capcom has released a short teaser trailer. It has some in game footage. Looks to be a lot darker in tone and more action oriented. I hope there will be a zombie vs soldiers mode. Teaser trailer added below...
The official PlayStation magazine(OXM) and Gamereactor both unveiled details about an upcoming Resident Evil game developed by Canadian studio Slant Six Games. The game will feature 4 player coop and will see the return of Leon Kennedy(probably as a non playable character). The game will give players more insight into the Umbrella corporation and how the outbreak started. Being developed for the XBOX360, PS3 and PC, we don’t know much else about it right now. No screenshots, no info on how the game actually plays. My guess is that it plays a lot like Resident Evil 5 but with 4 people. There's also apparently a 'competitive' online multiplayer mode. I’ll posts updates here if I find any. You can view the magazine front covers from the Capcom blog.

Battlefield 3 Fault Line Gameplay Video Part 3 - Get That Wire Cut
The third part of the Fault Line gameplay trailers is out now. You can watch it below. This gameplay trailer shows off the close quarters combat I posted earlier about. Use mouse gestures and correct key presses to punch and do counters. A bit more complicated than plain old quick time events. Lots of good stuff in this video. Check it out below…

Is EA’s Secret MMO Project An Ultima IV Reboot?
VG247 first got the scoop that EA was hiring a ‘web ninja’ for an unannounced MMO project that ‘will be huge’. The position was for EA headquarters located in Redwood Shores, California. Bluesnews today got a tip off that some in the Ultima community are beginning to suspect that EA are working on a new Ultima project. Two fan remake project of Ultima IV has been given cease and desist order. Multiple sites hosting those fan projects have been told to take them down. I’m not so sure if it is an Ultima IV remake. It could just be EA exercising their right to protect their IP. I do think they are working on an Ultima Project that is not Ultima Online. The mystery is that the position for the web ninja is at California and Bioware Mythic(the Mythic portion of that company) is based in Virginia. Could EA be working on some other MMO project? Could this be the new Command And Conquer game(but isn’t CNC the responsibility of EALA based in Los Angeles?). Oh the mystery…
Grim Dawn Gameplay Trailer - From The Team That Did Titan Quest
Crate Entertainment, an indie studio made up of former Iron Lore Studios staff, has released the first gameplay footage of Grim Dawn, an action RPG which they are calling it the spiritual successor to Titan Quest. Surely not thematically, because Grim Dawn sounds like a post apocalyptic fantasy world. Nothing post apocalyptic about it though. They are completely independent and self funded for this project. It’s planned to be a digitally distributed title. I’ve posted the gameplay trailer below and some introduction blurb from the official site.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Rumours Emerge - Announcement Coming Mid April?
Apparently, ‘sources close’ to the UK based PlayStation Magazine have hinted them that Modern Warfare 3 will be announced middle of April. They say that this fits with their previous announcement for Black Ops which was made back in April 30th 2010. The story is predicted to continue where the last one left off. I’m very sceptical about rumours and what not. Sources close to them could be anyone for all I know. Anyway, I’ll be keeping my eye on this come April.

Pirates of The Black Cove Gameplay Trailer - Work In Progress Island
Paradox Interactive has released the first gameplay trailer for Pirates of The Black Cove. Pirates is a new bold direction for Nitro Games whom previously used to make naval trading games(that weren’t so hot imho). From the looks of this trailer, Pirates looks to have more depth than I first thought. Looks like you’ll get to build up your pirate hideout(simple city building mechanic). Looks interesting. UPDATE Metacritic Introduces Game Developer Career Score
UPDATE: Metacritic has pulled all the game developers entry after it was pointed out to them that was not that comprehensive and accurate. They've released a statement on the site that they are still dedicated to creating a reliable credits database. It's unclear if the game designer score will ever return on the site. Well, I expected this.
Great! Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse or sillier, Metacritic has now introduced a new set of scores for game developers. The scores are tabulated based on the aggregate of review scores for all the games the developer has worked on. The flaw is that, the scores are based on all the games they GET their review scores from which is ONLY FROM GameFAQ. Some of my all time favourite game developer scores? Brian Reynolds(Rise of Nations and Civ 3) got a 79. Sid Meier got an 89. Will Wright got an 81 and Soren Johnson got an 82. Now game developers can look forward to their metacritic scores like how Malaysian parents boast about how many A’s their kids got at school. sigh… maybe Metacritic should work on scores for internet memes next.

Mass Effect 2 Arrival DLC Trailer - Earth May Fall To The Reapers
The final DLC for Mass Effect 2 has a trailer. Arrival which acts as a prelude to Mass Effect 3 ‘arrives’ on March 29th(most likely tomorrow for us here in Asia). I’ve heard that you’ll be playing this DLC just with Sheppard solo. You wont be getting any new companions(as far as we know). The ‘outcome’ of this DLC might be interesting as we know the reapers are going to invade earth regardless whatever happens in your game with this DLC. I wonder how Bioware are going to make a satisfying ending to this one. Trailer below…
Portal 2 Investment Opportunity #2 Trailer - Top Quality Robots From Aperture Science
Robots are cute, cuddly, and make great test subjects. They are a bit mischievous too. Ah, orange and blue… you’ll be the new companion cube wont you? Portal 2 is still set for April 22nd release(no more delays please). It has to be noted that blue and orange are the characters you and your buddy will play in the coop campaign, which is completely separate from the single player campaign. But I’m sure Valve will try to tie the two together some how. Watch Aperture science robots in action below…

Crysis 2 Graphics Comparison With Crysis And Some Other Shooters - In German
Here's a little something I found. I’ve been wanting to do a graphics comparison of Crysis and Crysis 2 but unfortunately I no longer have Crysis so I couldn’t make that video. Fortunately Gamestar(ah the Germans, if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t know which other site would do benchmarks and graphics comparisons) has made a video comparison of Crysis 2, Crysis, Call of Duty Black Ops, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. What are they actually saying? I have no idea. Just enjoy the pretty video. I think they do say that the lighting in Crysis 2 does look a lot better but there is less destructibility in Crysis 2(which I’ll write about in my review). Watch the video below…
Crouching Protocol, Hidden Dragon - Dragon Age 2 impressions
Hi again. As a followup to my previous article, I've now decided to tackle something more meaty and with actual content. I had quite a few things to say about Dragon Age 2 after completing it, but since frags' own review covers most of it, I'll instead focus on just expanding on it
A lot of people will look at Dragon Age 2 and think “It's Mass Effect 2 with magic and swords” and they'd be half right. Yes, a lot of it is inspired by Bioware's previous offering which ventured far from RPG land with great success. The dialogue wheel, the camera and fixed protagonist are all direct descendants of that game.

Star Wars The Old Republic Jedi Knight Progression Trailer
How do you want to build up your Jedi Knight? Well in the tradition of RPG’s, Star Wars The Old Republic will allow players to branch out their Jedi Knight a couple of different ways. This new trailer shows some of these branches like the Jedi Sentinel(heavy armoured Jedi) and the Jedi Guardian(I suppose a Jedi who is good at buffing others?). Due out sometime later this year, I’m thinking if anyone will even play anything else other than a jedi knight. I’m sure the bounty hunter will be a popular class as well. And gawd I HATE TUSKEN RAIDERS!!! Trailer below…
Deus Ex: Human Revolution Trailer - Play This Level In Three Different Ways
New trailer for the Deus Ex prequel Human Revolution is out. The new trailer shows three ways to play this particular level being demonstrated. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is turning out to be quite a faithful and even a more deeper game than the first Deus Ex was(expanding on the protagonists skills). August 26th will be a date to mark on your calendar. All the stuff we’ve been seeing seems to point towards this being, at last, a really good Deus Ex sequel. New trailer below…

Mount & Blade With Fire And Sword Preview - This is my Boomstick!
Mount & Blade With Fire And Sword doesn’t mess around. You start off the game right in the thick of action. Well a minor skirmish. Some bandits have attacked a village and you need to defend yourself. Upon taking care of this lone bandit(what was he thinking? A club would do well against someone with a sword?), a bunch of his friends appeared. I retreat, frantically trying to fend off their wild mob attacks. But I have something they don’t. I have gun! But no no avail since they are right at my face. Luckily, a bunch of friendly men arrive on the scene to take care of the bandits.

UPDATE Free DLC For Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II Retribution In April
UPDATE: Relic has detailed what they will be adding in the upcoming The Last Stand DLC here. There will be 12 new achievements with corresponding wargear for each of them.
Relic in a community QA posted on the official community site states that the standalone expansion, Retribution, will be getting free DLC in April. They stated that the free DLC will add new stuff for the last stand mode and there could possibly be more future DLCs. They’ve also confirmed that the exclusive wargears available in pre orders for the game will be made available as a paid DLC sometime after the games release. Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II Retribution will be released on March 1st. You can read Leo’s review here.

Homefront Sells Over 1 Million Units
Homefront, the first person shooter title developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ has been under intense scrutiny recently with the games release. THQ has been extremely vocal with making statements that it is their most successful title ever. However, reviews have been rather unflattering just a few days near the release of the game. How has the game been performing sales wise you may ask? Well, THQ has announced today that Homefront has sold an estimated 1 million copies worldwide and they’ve shipped a total of 2.4 million units(to retailers). THQ CEO Brain Farrell said this “Homefront is clearly resonating with gamers and we are certainly pleased with our initial sales results” regarding the sales results. Not too shabby, but I think much lower than what they were expecting. Still, the good result will at least incentivise THQ to keep Kaos Studios in its folds and work on Homefront 2. Maybe they can make a much better single player for the sequel.

Hunted: The Demon Forge Power of Two Trailer
Bethesda has released a new trailer for Hunted: The Demon Forge, a 2 player coop focused action RPG. The trailer shows the ‘coopyness’ of the games main campaign. One player controls the powerful melee oriented Caddoc and another plays as the agile elven archer Elara. It seems both of them get to use some form of magic so there is no single designated spell caster. A very action heavy game(which game these days isn’t). Due out June 4th. Battlefield 3 Close Quarters Combat Hinted
CERFY was at the C2E2(an expo at Chicago) and got to see a Battlefield 3 demo. The big reveal was that close quarters combat is no longer a simple knife animation with the single click of a button. You now have the ability to punch with your left or right hands and even throw a counter attack with the correct mouse gestures. Which really underlines DICE’s desire to take the things they learnt from Mirror’s Edge(the CQC combat and the movement of your character in first person) and implementing them into Battlefield 3 making for a more immersive game. If this was in multiplayer, it would be awesome. I can just imagine someone kung fu fighting their way to the frontlines. Battlefield 3 should be out later this year.

UPDATE: Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Will Feature Chaos & Given More Specific Release Date
UPDATE: THQ has announced that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine has been given an August release date.
Relic’s third person action game that was a project focused for a console release but later announced a PC version is at works, Space Marine, is confirmed to have Chaos. Relic released a rather curious screenshot with the title a hidden evil showing some unknown bad guy hidden in shadow at a distance. Destructoid got the scoop right from the horses mouth. Lead Designer Raphael von Lierop spilled the beans stating “there is definitely something more sinister happening on Forge World Graia than just a massive planetary invasion by Orks”. He goes on to add “The threat of Chaos ‘taint’ is an ongoing fear for any Space Marine, and Titus will have to face some truly epic trials to survive the machinations of Chaos on the planet. This is the stuff of legends”. Blimey! You play as a bad ass Ultramarine fighting back an Ork invasion(as they have shown in demos) and potentially uncovering more. The game is slated for a Q3 2011 release(although it could well be delayed to Q4) and will be released for the PC, XBOX360 and PS3.

Stronghold 3 Delayed To Late Summer 2011
Firefly Studios cult classic sequel, Stronghold 3 isn’t going to make it previously stated release target(Q3 2011). Firefly announced on their Facebook page that it will be pushed back to ‘later’ this summer 2011. Why does everyone use seasons for release dates? They are not the same around the world(the seasons timing aren’t the same). Late summer 2011 puts it at around August/September maybe? Stronghold is a popular series of real time town building game with a ‘defend your town from the invading army’ mechanic. It was also balls hard. I’ve included 3 new screenshots of the game below…

UPDATE Pirates of The Black Cove Closed Beta Registration Now Closed
UPDATE: The closed beta registration has been closed. According to Nitro Games "We wanted to avoid too many disappointed gamers, since this is a closed BETA with limited spots, it made no sense to keep the application open as we have already exceeded the expected number of applicants by a land slide". They also thanked everyone who registered "we would like to thank everyone for their interest in our game and continue working hard to meet the expectations people have on us and the game". Well, if you didn't get in the beta don't fret. They might do an open beta later on(my guess).
Nitro Games upcoming Pirates of The Black Cove will be having a closed beta in April. Registration for the beta has gone live. You can register for the closed beta here. Pirates of The Black Cove is a more arcade take on naval combat with players roaming the open seas accepting quests to complete. Recruits pirates to join your crew and rule the seven seas! Think of this as a spin on the Sid Meier Pirates game. The closed beta registration ends mid day of March 31st. I’ve included gameplay footage captured off camera from the Paradox convention earlier this year…

Operation Flashpoint: Red River ‘Taking The Hit’ Trailer
Codemasters Operation Flashpoint: Red River has a lot to live up to(fan expectations to solve a lot of the issues that plagued the first game). Especially with the less than stellar debut Dragon Rising which was neither a realistic military simulation nor a Call of Duty type shooter. It seems they are still trying to go for that balance rather than challenging ArmA 2 in terms of realism or to tackle reigning shooter champion Call of Duty in terms of accessibility. Will it be a mess of a game the second time? Red River apparently will only have coop and single player(ditching competitive multiplayer), and will use Games For Windows Live. The game comes out on April 21st. Trailer below…

Steam To Get Video Recording Function Soon?
Bigdownload has reported that a certain ‘political gamer’ has posted some information about his trip to Valve. A Team Fortress 2 community member, he has a lode of new info on future plans on the series and Steam. The big one is that he says that Valve are planning to roll out a video recording feature ‘very soon’ to Steam. This would completely make third party recording software like FRAPS unnecessary. Yay! In other news, apparently Meet the Medic video is real and is nearly finished! THIS IS NOT MEDICINE! OOOOPPS!

Dragon Age II DRM News - What The Hell Is Going On?
A lot has gone down regarding some DRM watchdog group Reclaim Your Game and EA. Reclaim Your Game claimed that EA didn’t disclose that Dragon Age II was using SecureRom(which is required by them in Europe as dictated by the courts). EA shot back saying it didn’t use SecureRom but instead a release control software that checks if the game is being played on release day. Reclaim Your Game did their own analysis to link the Sony DADC release control mechanism to SecureRom. According to Reclaim Your Game Sony DADC and SecureRom is one and the same. EA has not replied to the latest claims yet. Gosh! Can someone end this once and for all? Regardless of DRM, you can read my review of Dragon Age II here(which by the way, has no disc checks).

UPDATE Prey 2 Debut Trailer Is Live Action - It’s Turbulent
UPDATE: Those guys from NeoGAF have got some detail regarding Prey 2. The game will be completely single player. It will feature an open world with some parkour elements inspired by Mirror's Edge. You play the main protagonist who is the prison guard you see escorting a prisoner in the live action debut trailer. It also apparently has loot like in Borderlands. With all this and the portals, this sound like it is going to be a really unique FPS. Release 2012.
Bethesda has released a debut trailer(G4 exclusive) for the recently announced Prey 2. And indeed rumours of it ditching the native American theme seems to be true. The trailer is a live action bit which has absolutely zero gameplay. I’m not even sure if it is related in any way to the first Prey. Trailer below…

Microsoft’s Windows Gaming Experience Internal Video Leaked
ZDnet has found this video from Microsoft showing their plans for the Windows Gaming Experience, which is an internal team within Microsoft that works on all Microsoft gaming related projects on all platforms. The video is a little old(May 2010) but it’s pretty clear that Microsoft goals of ubiquitous computing, to connect your PC with your XBOX with your mobile device is a cool but not something of a revolutionary idea. But it’s way harder to implement it(than to theorise it on paper) as even Games For Windows Live was supposed to have offered some multiplatform features which Microsoft quickly discovered were quite incompatible with each other(really, gold tier membership for PC?). But cool idea nevertheless. No idea whether the ideas will get implemented at all or if they moved on. Video below…
