Mikail Yazbeck of Taleworlds describes what they are going for with Mount & Blade With Fire And Sword. The standalone expansion will focus on 17th century eastern Europe which is already a departure from Mount & Blade’s fictional albeit historically inspired factions and world. The 17th century is an interesting setting. It doesn't need a change to the existing combat system that much since it isn't the Napoleonic era of musket warfare and drills. Guns still didn't take over the battlefield yet and battles were still primarily fought with swords without the marching drills and battalion formations of the 18th century. Definitely one of the games to watch this year. Mount & Blade With Fire And Sword will be released in Q2 2011. Video interview and two new trailer below...

I admit, this expansion caught my attention, as I don't have any interests on previous one.
ReplyDeleteEastern Europe always has the mysterious aura surround the continent, as it is quite rare for dev to explore them, or maybe I just rarely play alot of RTS.
It's not a very popular RTS setting either. I think it's mostly to do with the knowledge of that region and its culture. Most developers don't know that much about them, unless they are of course eastern european themselves. Or a wargaming crowd.
