The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mods That You Should Install

Nearly five months have passed since the release of The Elderscrolls V: Skyrim. It's been a phenomenon, clearly topping the best seller charts for months on end. Despite being a gigantic game, Skyrim has since got a lot bigger and better thanks to the gigantic amount of user made content. Thanks to the use of the Steam Workshop, it's never been easier to download and install mods for Skyrim. I've been scouring the list of available mods for a while now and I've compiled the six that have caught my eye below...

Pure Waters Mod

There's something odd about the rivers in Skyrim. They are indeed pretty... but not exactly natural. A bit too rough even the large pools of water. This mod rectifies all of that. The water now moves gently and way more realistically. Must have if you're into immersive experiences.

Sounds of Skyrim - The Wilds

Another mod that adds to the immersion of Skyrim. Quite frankly, Skyrim makes an amazing hiking simulator... if you can ignore the nasty sabre tigers, spiders, and well other monsters. Sounds of Skyrim adds a whole load of variety in new ambient sound. Like the crowing of ravens to the bark of dogs from a distance. There's even a Sounds of Skyrim mod for the Dungoen which adds new sounds for dungeons. But I'm more of an outdoors guy so to me... the wilds is a must have.

Camping Mod

With the whole theme of a hiking simulator, which... Skyrim is perfect for... the Camping Mod adds portable camping tents so that you can make camp anywhere in the world of Skyrim. Sleep in the wilderness. You make sure the are is clear of wild animals. Certainly don't camp near the giants.

Enhanced Blood Textures

Default blood textures in Skyrim are a bit low res and muddy. Want more realistic blood? Try the Enhanced Blood Texture mod. Slicing away at enemies will generate thick realistic blood that has no performance hit to your experience.

Moonpath to Elsweyr

Spiders... lots of spiders. Elsweyr is the home of the mysterious feline Khajiits. This mod looks quite breathtaking and you can expect the Khajiits to have a remarkable looking abode. And they do. Moonpath to Elsweyr has 3 major quests and a few side quests. Experience the lush jungles and deserts. Also... did I warn you of spider? Spiders!

Sea of Ghosts - Seastone Edition

A custom set of quests and area set in the Northern parts of Tamriel, the Sea of Ghosts put you on the Winter Warmth... yes you are actually on a ship. Which makes this one of the coolest custom quests available. Seven major quests and with the Seastone Edition(an expanded version of the mod), you even get new areas and even a house for purchase. To access the mod area, you need to travel to Solitude Docks and talk to Roggnar.

All you need to do is go to the Steam workshop page of the mod and click on subscribe. The mod will download automatically when you start Skyrim. Updates to the mod will also be applied automatically... no more mucking about with data files and what not. There you go... a nice collection of mods to extend and enhance your Skyrim experience. Do share you favourite mods in the comments section. There's still a load of other mods and new ones in development. I might highlight new mods as I try them out.
