GDC 2011: Super Meat Boy Developers Nearly Killed Themselves Making The Game

Gamasutra wrote about the Super Meat Boy post mortem at GDC 2011. Programmer Tommy Refenes and artists Edmund McMillen both felt the almost lethal pressure to make it in time for the XBOXlive Fall Game Feast. “I kept thinking, 'If I make it through, I probably won't die, but it's OK if I die afterward.” said Refenes who is diabetic. They also said they were disappointed with Microsoft’s Fall Gamefeast campaign and felt it didn’t warrant their crazy development pace in the end. “Ed and I killed ourselves to get this game done, and we're just kind of pushed to the side.” Refenes said about Microsoft giving them only the fourth slot together with the highly visible Costume Quest. Super Meat Boy has sold nearly 400,000 units on both XBOXlive and Steam. I sincerely hope Team Meat takes thing slower now and take care of their health. The PC version will be getting a new update(The Internetz) soon.
