LOTRO Game Diary 8 - The End of This Journey
The Nazgul has been spotted in the Bree lands. This doesn’t bode well for middle earth. Me and this other ranger slayed Amdir(some random NPC) who has been turned into a Nazgul, relatively easy. I suppose there are different levels of Nazgul.
Bree is a very large city. It’s got a lot of side quests and merchants. There are also plenty of higher level quests which I took accidentally. I’m only levels 16 and I’ve taken level 21 quests. The quests Strider assigns to me range from a bunch of quests that take me all around the Bree area investigating missing people to meeting up with informants.
The storyline here is mainly about these Nazguls searching for four hobbits that were from the Shire. I’ve uncovered that many mercenaries/bandits of the land have allied themselves to Angmar and there are even Half Orcs. The quests lead me to a bandit half orc encampment in Andrath. Plenty of tough melee fighters here.
Managed to group up and form a fellowship and took out all the side quests in Andrath. Oooo, invited to join a kinship(guild). Unfortunately ever since joining this kinship, I’ve never been able to meet the rest of the guys since you know, this is an American server after all. But it’s nice to know you’re accepted by others.
Right after that, I took a quest to help this dwarf guy find his blade. He thinks one of the smithies in Bree stole it. After travelling around questioning some annoyed human smithies, it turns out the guy that stole it is dead and the blade is broken. Kenton Thistleways(the smith helping out to build this blade) daughter has been kidnapped by the bandits!
Maribell Thistleway rescued, one more bandit leader defeated and one happy man and one happy dwarf with his new blade. After all the running back and forth to complete all the quest surrounding Bree(still haven’t got enough Turbine points to purchase a mount). I’ve finally got to a quest that was quite worth all the effort of grinding those quests out and running back and forth. The quest to find Tom Bombadil.
This is in my opinion, one of the best set of quests in LOTRO. Not so much for the design of the quests themselves, but the atmosphere and design of the area is spooky and ‘evil’, you really felt like you were going into the ancient mysterious Old Forest. Of course when you’ve met Tom Bombadil, you realise that he’s this eccentric jolly fellow that is in stark contrast to the place he lives in. There’s some really got artistic vision here.
The area is full of wild animals, trees and vines that come alive, and swampy bogs. Up north, there are wights, skeletons and other sinister creatures. I’m at level 19 now and the quests around here still give me trouble. Tom Bombadil brings me to the great barrow of the downs where I confront Skorgrim and another Nazgul. The wights are just too overpowering for me to take on alone. So I managed to partner with another helpful fella to take on this quest.
Thanks to Anic, Halinthir managed to defeat the wight lord that stood at the end of this quest(Skorgrim escapes again). With the end of this quest, Halinthir ponders on his journey so far and what he will do next? Perhaps he will get even closer to Skorgrim and end the menace of the Dourhands? Or maybe he’s got tired of the heroics and decides to go back to the forest?
But this is where this story ends. Perhaps Halinthirs quest shall continue, trying to get to grips with level 20(currently at level 19) and the realities of being a free account holder. This tale has to end now, but there are many more tales to be told of other heroic and epic deeds by other people. In plain English, perhaps it’s time to move on to a new game diary series with a new game.
