Diablo 3 Wont Be Playable Offline And Wont Support Mods - The World Erupts!
Another pretty controversial move from Blizzard... Diablo 3 is only playable online(you need to login to battle.net and authenticate your characters). In essence, Diablo 3 will be like a huge instanced MMO as player play their own games or invite other as coop partners. Items can be sold for REAL cash to other players on an auction house. This will certainly come as a shock to many who remember fondly playing Diablo/Diablo 2 single player for many hours. Blizzard also announced that mods will be prohibited. It makes sense considering there is an online economy with real money involved, but locking in your game is... disappointing considering the amounts of mods Diablo 2 has had. It's a crying shame. I'm expecting the PC gaming crowd to rail against this, yet again. And rightfully so frankly. No offline mode for an action RPG... sheesh.

I personally think it's fine, probably I stuck most of my time in MMO anyway so Internet connection required to play a game is not really an issue. In fact, most games on Steam also linked Online for example to record your game play achievements (of course Online is not mandatory).
ReplyDeleteWell, Diablo III won't be the "traditional" DIablo after all- with Online PvP feature, Co-Op, things should be much "open" rather than just crawling dungeon ourself whole day. And again, since I am fans of MMO myself guess I can accept features like constant-online, auction houses in Diablo III pretty well. I can understand why it sounds quite strange for a classic title like this though.
