UPDATE EA Working On New Command & Conquer Game

UPDATE: The Command & Conquer site is now back up. Mostly with the same info we already know about the new C&C title. New tech behind it etc. Hopefully they'll announce something about this game at GDC.

Rock Paper Shotgun discovered that EA had for a minute announced the existence of a new Command & Conquer project in this website called CnCStage. The site is now down. It may not have been ready for an official announcement but RPS managed to find out(from the lost website) that EA is opening a new bunch of studios called Victory Games that will be based in Los Angeles, Texas and Shanghai. The site also had quotes from studio head Jon Van Canegham who said the studio will be producing “AAA Command & Conquer Game for the PC”. He also said that the studio is overhauling the core technology behind the franchise(my guess is a new engine).

He also went on to say “I can tell you it’s a Command & Conquer game for the PC, but we’re not yet at a stage where I can go into any details— we’ll be prepared to make a more formal announcement later in the year. We’re not just working on a game, though. Our general focus is on the future of Command & Conquer. That means updating a lot of the core technology to create a stable base for future development, and leveraging that work on this first game.” RPS are speculating this means they are still focusing on the online component of the game. They are possibly working on the infrastructure to build a PC game with some persistent elements. Will be keeping an eye for more news on this.
