Supreme Commander 2 GamesCom 2009 Gameplay Footage

More RTS goodness, this time from Gas Powered Games. Supreme Commander 2 look to keep the gargantuan scale of the first game while perfecting and rectifying many of the flaws of the first. IGN has posted a trailer and two gameplay footage(captured by camera). Videos below:

R.U.S.E GamesCom 2009 Gameplay Footage

Gametrailers has a bunch of videos of Ubisoft’s sleek looking RTS, R.U.S.E. The videos were taken from camera so expect some blurriness. Everything points to a more simplified RTS game. I think it would be good on the console since the consoles are starved for a good strategy game(aside from Civilization Revolution of course). On the PC, I’m not so sure since there are plenty of other strategy games. Videos below:

Napoleon: Total War Announced!

At Gamescom 09, SEGA revealed the new Total War title called Napoleon: Total War. IGN UK has a first write up preview of the new features of the new game. Based on the preview, Napoleon: Total War seems to borrow some the episodic nature of the Road to independence campaign in Empire. Napoleons campaign will be divided to three different episodes(all will be available in the game) that set the setting behind Napoleons historic manoeuvres. Creative Assembly are aiming for a February 2010 release. Still no clear indication whether this will be an expansion or a stand alone title.

Napoleon: Total War opens up a new narrative layer to the genre-defining franchise. From the early Italian campaign to the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon covers two decades of relentless battles, a backdrop of a world in flames against which the story of an extraordinary military career unfolds.

Whether you play as the legendary General or against, the outcome of war can never be guaranteed. The course of history relies on your ability to lead your troops through the most intense battles as never seen before in a Total War game.

The genre-defining franchise brings Napoleon to life:

Napoleon: Total War defines a new standard within the genre with exciting characters and a cinematic narrative, mind-blowing battle sequences and an unrivalled mix of turn-based and real-time strategy.

Three new episodic campaigns:
Take command and lead your armies on land and sea over three campaigns: Italy, Egypt and Mastery of Europe. The seamless mix of objective-based missions and sandbox experience makes this the most complete Total War experience to date.

Cutting-edge multiplayer:
Napoleon features fully integrated multiplayer modes and a complete set of online functionalities: Steam achievements, gameplay bonuses, uniform editor and voice communications.

All new Napoleonic battles and units:
Advanced weaponry enables new tactical options and even more exciting real-time battles on an epic scale, while the highly detailed environments and improved battlefield buildings guarantee a realistic recreation of famous historical battles.

StarCraft II IGN Single Player Video Preview

IGN has a write up preview of StarCraft II’s single player campaign. The preview contains some spoilers in the type of mission you will face. On top of that, they have a video preview which looks sweet. The in between missions look great as you control Jim Raynor in the spaceship Hyperion. There seems to be some pretty smart single player missions and a lot of diversity in mission types. I’m glad that Blizzard are doing new things for this game(in terms of mission design) when many consider StarCraft II to be just a graphical update. I think this video preview will prove to you it isn't. Video preview below:

Team Fortress 2 Update Will Bring New King of The Hill Mode

Valve confirmed on the Team fortress blog that a King of the Hill gameplay mode is indeed being worked upon to be added in the next update. Teased in an earlier update,  the King of The Hill mode will have one capture point that will be unlocked after a short time. The team that captures it will have to defend it for three minutes. Also revealed are 3 new community made maps.

King of the Hill (KotH) is an intense new game mode focused around a single central capture point that must be defended for three minutes. Gameplay begins with the point initially locked—after a short time, it will open for capture by either team. Once the point is captured by a team, their team clock will start a three minute countdown. If the enemy team manages to capture the point back, their clock will start counting down while the other team’s clock freezes at the time the point was recaptured.

Stardock Reveals New Demigod

Stardock CEO, Brad Wardell, posted information about a new Demigod(for the game Demigod) on his blog. The Demon Assasin is a melee assassin(which looks like a HR Geiger designed Alien) that wields a sword and a knife.

Demon Assassin
Overview and Traits

While mobile and able to dodge many normal attacks, Demon Assassin is susceptible to magical damage.

The nemesis to Regulus, the Demon Assassin is extremely fast and lethal.

StarCraft II Delayed To 2010!

Activision announced that StarCraft II and Singularity(time manipulating FPS game) has been delayed to first half of 2010. A Blizzard PR sent out a statement later that the main reasons for the delay is the new Battle.net that is not ready. Blizzard statement below:

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this message that we just posted for players regarding StarCraft II and Battle.net.

Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we'll also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series' legacy in the first half of 2010.

We will share more details about the beta, Battle.net, and StarCraft II's launch in the future. Keep an eye on the official website at www.starcraft2.com for updates, and as always, thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for StarCraft II and all of Blizzard Entertainment's games.

A pity, but I have no qualms on waiting this one out. The analysts were correct on this one. The beta hasn’t been out yet and the longer the beta isn’t out the further back the game release date will be. And I suppose the main reason the beta isn’t out is battle.net not being completely ready.

Left 4 Dead Crash Course DLC Announced!

Valve has announced the second DLC for Left 4 Dead called Crash Course. Crash Course will be a new campaign that will be free for the PC and a paid DLC for the XBOX360(USD$7). The new campaign will have 2 survival modes as well as a streamlined, 30 minutes version of versus(on top of a regular coop campaign). Crash Course will be set between No Mercy and Death Toll. Valve are aiming to release this DLC in September.

More Left 4 Dead DLC Announced
August 4, 2009, 10:08 am - Valve - Press Release
Crash Course Campaign Due in September

August 4, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the next major downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D), the #1 new game title on Xbox 360 and PC in 2008

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is targeted for release in September and will be available free of charge on the PC and for 560 Gamer points on Xbox Live.
