Company of Heroes Online Shutting Down

UPDATE: Bigdownload has posted info on THQ's financial report for Q3 2011 highlighting that the closure of CoH online will cost THQ USD$9.9 million. THQ made a net loss of USD$14.9 million for the quarter, which I presume is the main reason for the closure of CoH online. Financial pressure(and the loss for that quarter). It's still unsure just how profitable or unprofitable CoH online was for THQ and Relic(perhaps not as profitable enough).

Relic, announced on the Company of Heroes official site that they will be shutting down Company of Heroes Online, their free to play experiment for North America and Asia on March 3rd. CoH Online is currently in open beta and it’s unsure exactly why they chose to do this. Speculation is rife that the free to play experiment just isn’t as profitable as they expected. In addition to that, THQ is offering CoH online players the opportunity to purchase CoH Gold on the THQ store for only USD$4.99. Relic are working on a new patch for CoH that will add the changes on CoH online to the retail game(yay!). In the post, Relic also said “We are excited to reveal the next evolution of the series in the near future”, whatever that means. I’m not sure if they have been working on a new CoH title or it’s just corporate speak.

  2. Yeah, I'm not sure about that. If it does, I'm sure the mod team can work out a patch for the mod.
