Dear Esther was one of those moody, artful Half Life 2 mods that garnered quite a bit of critical reception. It's a rare game that sort of blurs the definition of what a game is. They've been nominated for the IGF grand prize and good news... releasing it as a proper standalone game on Steam this February 14th! Certainly one to check out.
