Paradox Interactive Convention Announcements

UPDATE 2: I've added new videos for Salem, Pirates of The Black Cove, Sword of The Stars 2, Crusader Kings 2 and the Hears Of Iron Card Game. All off camera on the Paradox Convention floor but very rare footage. Check them out. Thanks to GuileMikeSFU over at youtube. Subscribe to his channel please.

UPDATE: New trailers and videos added for Dreamlords Resurrection and Defenders of Ardania

Paradox held their press convention at New York today. They made some interesting announcements. First, CEO Fred Wester says that their digital sales make up 70% of their total sales. Not exactly surprising and I never imagined Paradox titles to be strong retail titles, at least not in North America. The second biggest and most important announcement is the flurry of games they’ve announced that are free to play. Using their recently released Paradox Connect system, these new free to play games will allow you to connect to their servers and have a persistent user experience in games that support it. I’ve listed the new games announced below(and some new trailers) and I’ll be updating this post if any new info pops up…

The Free To Play Stuff

Salem
Salem is a fantasy RPG MMO set in the 17th century in the new World. The player has to join the colonists and live in their homes! Sounds more like a survival/building game. Developed by Seatribe, it’s due out in 2011.

Gettysburg Armoured Warfare
A first person shooter RTS hybrid that is set on an alternate universe. Tanks, zeppelins and other mechanical death devices set in the Civil War period. Developed by Real Time Games, also a 2011 game.

Hearts of Iron The Card Game
This ones pretty interesting. I’ve always thought Paradox could make pretty interesting card/board games from their titles and it seems they are working on a Hearts of Iron card game. Completely free to play. There’s be a trading system that will allow you to trade cards with other players. Very cool. Definitely will check this one out.

Dreamlords Resurrection
The first free to play game on Paradox connect that will be released. Current;y in closed beta, an RTS/MMORPG hybrid with PVP, PVE and coop. Probably will be available soon. Look out for this.

The Regular Paradox Line up

Pride of Nations
It’s a Victorian era grand strategy game by AGEOD who are now part of paradox. Unlike Paradoxs own titles, it’s a turn based games and there is a total of 1200 turns in the campaign! Even the developer admits to not having finished a game yet. You can read PC Gamers full preview here.

Naval War Artic Circle
Norway based Turbo Games are doing this naval based RTS game. Featuring modern ships and set in North Atlantic waters. This ones coming out on the first quarter of 2012

Mount & Blade With Fire & Sword
As I’ve posted before, Mount And Blade Warband is really good. And this time Taleworlds are bringing a new expansion that is set in the 17th century. All new setting with all new weapons plus…muskets!

King Arthur II
Neocore and Paradox announced this recently. They’ve got a new trailer.

Hearts of Iron III For The Motherland
I liked Hearts of Iron III despite it’s technical problems. Paradox has announced they are working on the second expansion for it titled, For The Motherland. It seems like they are expanding on the political system and making the game playable in a single sitting or an evening.

Pirates of The Black Cove
Nitro Games next game. They have a lot to proof as their last entry, Commander: Conquest of The Americas left me cold. Pirates will be more of a Sid Meier Pirates sort of game where you pick a pirate captain and get a crew and sail your pirate ship searching for treasure and doing other piratey stuff. A bit of a departure from their previous games but I think it is the right thing to do.

Magicka
A Diablo clone action RPG, Magicka is a more light hearted wizard focused game. It has 4 player coop and is currently in beta. Should be out Q1 of this year.

Cities in Motion
I had to point out this game. No new footage or info on this one but as I have written in my preview, it’s one to keep an eye out for. Especially if you like Transport Tycoon. Emphasis on individual citizens. There are a lot of them.

Defenders of Ardania
From the same universe as the Majesty games, comes a more casual tower defence game. Due out Q2 2011. Also has an Ipad version in the works.

Crusader Kings II
Yeah I wrote about this in the post prior to this one. Here’s a new teaser trailer. Due out 2012.

Sword of The Stars II
A new off cam footage I found. Not much media available for this game so you've got to take what you get.

There are other games like Magna Mundi, Sword of The Stars II and Supreme Ruler Cold War but nothing completely new. I’ll update this post if new information or media is released.
