The reveal late last year that new Bioware studio, Bioware Victory is working on Command & Conquer Generals 2 caught many by surprise and truly made many excited(could this be the first good Command & Conquer game in a long while?). EA decided to pull an even bigger surprise at Gamescom 2012 today by announcing that Generals 2 has been renamed to just Command & Conquer and it will be a free to play title. It's still an RTS powered by the amazing FrostBite 2 engine(Battlefield 3), but it will be available for everyone for free. EA press statement "We are thrilled about this opportunity to transform Command & Conquer into a premier online experience. For nearly two decades, this franchise has existed as something you buy; now we are creating a destination where our fans will be able to access the entire Command & Conquer universe, starting with Generals and continuing with Red Alert, Tiberium and beyond. With Frostbite 2, we are able to keep an emphasis on the AAA quality our consumers expect while staying true to the RTS gameplay they know and love – all available online for free."
