Nimbus Demo Impressions

Don’t let the cute graphics fool you. Nimbus, developed by Noumenon Games, is a very challenging casual puzzle game. In fact, I’m hesitant to call it casual at all since it will frustrate a lot of people. There are levels here that will make you tear your hair out. In Nimbus, you take control of a rocket ship thingie(I suppose it’s called a Nimbus) in search of this other rocket ship thingie that was kidnapped by a giant eye that came from the sky. Seriously.

Your goal is to guide the Nimbus to the checkered blocks at the end of the level. The catch is that, your Nimbus can’t propel itself, it merely glides. What this means is that you’d have to use the momentum of your movement to propel your Nimbus to hard to get places. The controls seem a little hard to get into in the beginning but you’ll get used to it. You can use airbrakes to slow down your trajectory or descent. Despite the games recommendation of using a gamepad, I found it plays perfectly fine using just the keyboard.

In later levels, the game mixes things up and you’ll often have to navigate narrow tunnels and gather keys that are placed precariously. Some levels introduce a third element where you’ll have to manipulate another object(often by getting it to a spot) to get to the finish line.

Nimbus is a unique puzzle game that will challenge your wits and keep you occupied for quite a while(there is a leader board that lists the fastest completion times) with its variety of new mechanics it introduces throughout the game. It’s on Steam for only USD$9.99.

You can purchase it or download the demo here
