Reign of Thunder Announced - Free To Play Mech Combat

Mechs are cool right? Day 1 Studios announced their upcoming game, Reign of Thunder... it has mechs in it. Day 1 are the creators of Mech Assault the console centred third person(well... mech) shooter set in the Mechwarrior universe. This one looks to follow the same formula except it does the whole free to play, customise your Mech thing. According to the press release, a public release of some sort(maybe an open beta) is "very, very near". Watch the debut trailer below...

Chicago, Illinois – February 20, 2012-

Day 1 Studios announces a AAA, free-to-play Mech combat game Reign of Thunder. The fast paced, multi-player focused title is the independent studio’s return to the genre they helped establish with their award winning MechAssault series on XboxLive™.

The frenetic, third person action-combat game allows players to create and customize Mechs to match their play style, choosing from thousands of weapon, shield, and gadget combinations. Players can also join factions and form clans to support community engagement and team play.

“We are committed to bringing incredible quality to the free to play space and look forward to establishing a development partnership with our early players to make Reign of Thunder truly amazing” stated Denny Thorley, President of Day 1.

The game’s Creative Director and Executive Producer, TJ “PAINGOD” Wagner said “It feels great to return to the Mech genre and community we’ve played games with and made games with, for almost two decades. Combining the customization and RPG elements of the early MechWarrior PC and board games with the fast paced arcade action of the MechAssault series and making it all Free-to-Play is an exciting opportunity to be part of. I’m dying to get Thunder in the hands of new and old Mech pilots alike and battle it out. The best part is that time is very, very near.”
