King Arthur II: The Role Playing Wargame Launch Trailer
King Arthur II is now available on Steam and GamersGate. It is the sequel to King Arthur which I thought was quite a unique take on the Total War formula of turn based and real time strategy. It might not have had the right balance... which I hope this sequel would have rectified. Check out the launch trailer below...

Warlock: Master of The Arcane Video Interview - Fantasy Civ V?
Paradox has uploaded a video interview with the producer of Warlock: Master of The Arcane, a turn based fantasy strategy game based on the Majesty franchise. I have a preview copy of it and it's... well even a look at it and you will be able to tell, it takes quite a bit from Sid Meier's Civilization V, aesthetically and mechanically as well. It uses hexes damnit! :s To be fair mechanics are the differentiation but I wouldn't blame you if you said this looks like a fantasy version of Civ V. I'll try to have some preview content up for this game. For now, check out the developer interview below...

No Blizzcon For You This Year!
PC Gamer is reporting a rather major news! Blizzard has announced t hat they won't be having their earth shaking, gargantuan yearly convention.... called Blizzcon, won't be happening in 2012. Heresy! Apparently their schedule for 2012 is packed to the brim. They are organising a 2012 Battle.net World Championship that will be taking place in Asia. It would host a World of Warcraft Arena Tournament as well as a StarCraft II tournament. Beside these tournaments, Blizzard are busy at work on StarCraft II: Heart of The Swarm, Diablo 3(still no release date), and WoW: Mist of Panderia(this is still not a joke). In light of their busy schedule, there you have it... they are only having Blizzcon in 2013.

Are Retail Games Priced Unfairly In Malaysia? - Publishers Do Take Note
Pricing has always been the eternal question in Malaysia and around our region. Well, at least for video games(PC or console games for that matter). It is one that has divided so many gamers into those that buy original and to those that continue to buy pirated game(or instead drop into the slew of free to play games available now). Although it can be argued that even pirates(you have to be fair here) could afford original game, just not that too often. This isn't the main reason for piracy, just one that is often quoted. At least in Malaysia.

ESA Drops Support For SOPA - SOPA Shelved
Good news! The ESA, the organisation that runs E3 and is considered as the lobbying arm of the video games industry has backed out of supporting SOPA(the Stop Online Piracy Act). SOPA is a bill that would have given IP holders absolutely authority over anything related to their IP including screenshots and videos. It would allow IP holders to call for the blocking of a website(very very bad). Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith conceded that they would not be considering SOPA until a compromise was reached. The sister act(no relation to Whoopi Goldberg), PIPA(Protect IP Act) has been put on hold. Mr Smith said "I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy."

Is THQ In Trouble? - Rumours That Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Being Sold
A thread in NeoGAF seemed to have suggested that THQ are close to bankruptcy and are considering cancelling all 2014 games. GamesIndustry.biz got an official statement from THQ stating that all 2014 titles are still in development and they want to focus on developing top quality titles. "THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO" the press statement read. GamesIndustry.biz wrote that an insider(great, another one of those) stated that THQ are looking for a buyer for Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online(the Warhammer 40k MMO). THQ has been under some financial pressure lately with them cutting staff and closing studios, most notably Kaos Studios(Homefront). Considering Relic and 4A Games(Metro: Last Light) is under THQ, I hope this doesn't affect all studios under the THQ arm. I WANT MY COMPANY OF HEROES 2 DAMNIT! Will update when new info pops up.

XCOM, The Shooter Delayed To 2013
GameInformer, in its latest issue seems to have confirmed that 2K has delayed XCOM(the shooter) from 2K Marin to 2013. This news comes at the heels of the announcement of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a strategy title from Firaxis, the folks that brought you the Civilization series. XCOM has gone through one major design change since its initial reveal back in 2010. Perhaps now with the announcement of Enemy Unknown, much of the rage for turning XCOM into a shooter would... hopefully have been subsided.

Bioware detailed the release of Mass Effect 3. On their official forums, Chris Priestly stated that it will require an Origin account(all versions will require Origin). You can still play single player offline(Origin has an offline mode, and it will require a one time online authentication) but multiplayer obviously will require online connection. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 Still In The Works - Team Continuing To Work On It
Just a small update on the GSC Gameworld saga, it they've posted an update on the Facebook page stating that they are continuing to work on the game. "The Stalker team is extremely happy! Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays." I'm quite sure they don't have a publishers for it and the team might not be in full strength. Just last month we got word that they in a bad state and the company might be closing down and S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 cancelled. It seems that there is some positive news although it we don't know how they've managed to keep working on the game. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 was planned for a late 2012 release... I would say, don't hope on it releasing this year.
Age of Empires Online Introduces Skirmish Mode
I wrote a while back about my impressions of Age of Empires Online, a free to play online RTS that was a lot of Age of Empires minus all the cool stuff locked up and behind bars(to be unlocked by grinding). Diablo III Rumours - Releasing February 1st?
According to Joystiq, BestBuy(a North American Retailer) has set the product release date to February 1st and has plans to put a digital countdown timer to its imminent release. There is this picture which seem to confirm this news unless it's some amazing Photoshop trickery of BestBuy is pulling out info out of their.... behinds. While Blizzard hasn't released an official statement on this, it does look likely it will hit the store shelves rather soon. Valve announced today that its digital distribution platform, Steam, has had over 100% sales growth for 2011. It makes it the seventh year the runaway leader in its market has been making over 100% growth in sales. Steam has 40 million registered users with a record of 5 million user online concurrently. He went on to state that this year, they are prepping up for the release of a Big UI Mode for Steam which will allow it to be used on much bigger displays(like TV's). Breaking News! XCOM: Enemy Unknown Announced! Developed By Firaxis
Which could only mean one thing right? Turn Based? Gameinformer unveiled the scoop in this post. It will be a strategy game like the old school X-COM game. Sadly it still doesn't add the hyphen in between the title :s It has been confirmed there will be turn based tactical combat and a strategic real time view. Oh boy! Firaxis Head Steve Martin said "It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM". It's to be released Fall 2012(also coming out for the PS3 and XBOX360 as well as the PC) and we'll get more info when Gameinformer releases their February issue. This would perhaps satiate the fanboys that raged at the news of 2K Marin doing the first person XCOM. Firaxis well known for their turn based Civilization series has a great track record for turn based strategy. Can they do a proper tactical combat game? We'll have to wait and see.
