Bioshock Infinite First Five Minute Video - Columbia Is Not Rapture
It touches on the classic Boshock intro... of moving in on a lighthouse. Except this time, you're not going under the ocean. Which is a smart twist, but a twist we all knew. You take on the role of Booker DeWitt and get caught up with the objective of saving Elizabeth. Columbia, the floating city turns out to be no utopia. Bioshock Infinite release March 26th 2013. The War Z Pulled From Steam - Release Date Miscommunication
Valve in a statement released to Kotaku clarified that The War Z was prematurely put up for sale on Steam. "We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here". Not to be confused with Day Z, The War Z is from Hammerpoint Interactive that raised a few eyebrows after development was announced when Day Z got very popular. Producer Sergei Titov told PC Gamer that the Steam store page greatly exaggerated what was in the release build with featured listed, not being implemented yet. Gamers can still purchase the game on the official The War Z site. Expected full release date end of December or January 2013.

Resident Evil 6 Releasing On The PC March 22nd 2013 - System Requirements Released
Capcom announced Resident evil 6 will arrive on the PC on March 22nd 2013, including all released DLC as free content, including the harder difficulty No Hope mode. They've released the system specs which don't look too demanding. Resident Evil 6 has gotten poor reviews since its release on the consoles and I don't think a PC release is going to change that drastically. Minimum and recommended system specs below...

Tomb Raider Survival Trailer - Release Date March 5th 2013
Lara Croft becomes Lara Croft in... Tomb Raider. The reboot/prequel is a more realistic(caveat... it's a video game!) and grittier Lara Croft tries surviving on a mysterious island, after surviving a shipwreck. The trailer shows lots of combat but I'm not so sure if they're changing it to Tomb Raider: Call of Duty mind you. The game has got a release date... March 5th 1023. Watch the trailer below.

Bioshock Infinite Release Delayed By A Month
Irrational Games has delayed Bioshock Infinite by a month. Originally planned for a February 26th 2013 release, KenLevine stated in a press event "When Rod Fergusson came on board we looked at the game. He was there for about a month and he said, ‘look, I’ve been looking at the schedule and looking at the game and frankly you could really benefit from another three or four more weeks for polish and bug fixing." So the new release date is March 26th 2013. No Elizabeth, Columbia, or Songbird for us for just a bit.

Hawken Release Delayed - Open Beta On December 12th

Instead, the date will mark a new phase of open beta for another round of testing. You can go to the official site to register to get enlisted and join the incoming open beta. From what I've played of it, it's a faster mech shooter. A lot of fun and frantic action. It's free to play so you can play it as much as you want.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Slingshot DLC Launch Trailer - Off To China On A 3 Mission Romp
The frst major DLC for XCOM: Enemy Unknown is out now on Steam. Slingshot takes the XCOM operatives on a series of missions in China. It somewhat drops a bit of the random element and adds a new special character that is... uncustomisable. It's going for USD$6.99 which is a tad bit pricey considering it's just a 3 missions with nothing more than that added. There is a bit of a mini storty as well. The triads are trying to get their hands on an alien artifact etc. Watch the launch trailer below...

Planescape Torment Sequel Talk - Designer of The Classic Keen To Make A New Planescape
Colin McComb, one of the key designers previously from Black Isle Studios(now at InXile) has just finished most of his tasks with Wasteland 2 and in a blog post stated his interest on working on a new Planescape Torment game. Planscape Torment was a critically acclaimed RPG using the AD&D rule set using the Bioware Infinity engine(the one used for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II). What made Planescape different from the Bioware games was that it told a more personal story with more fleshed out characters. Oh and death isn't the end of the game, which was revolutionary for video games(and it fit perfectly into the narrative). You can read my retrospective piece on Planescape Torment here.
Colin stated that he and Chris Avellone(lead designer of Planescape and now at Obsidian Entertainment) were keen to revisit the setting and perhaps would think of using a different rule set and telling a new story. "My primary goal would be to help the player tell a story that was evocative of the original Torment without aping it. To be faithful to the odyssey of the Nameless One, and to recognize that it has ended, and that stories of Torment are ongoing" he said. While the rights belong to Wizards of The Coast, they might be able to pull it off without using the Planescape setting(Planescape is in the Dungeons & Dragons universe). He hoped fans would back him to make a new Planescape Torment without it being set in the D&D world. I really would like to see this happen. For now, it's all just theoretical talk.

Splash Damage Teases Dirty Bomb - Terrorist Ridden London Multiplayer Shooter?
Makers of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Quake Wars and the not so successful BRINK has unveiled their new project with this trailer. Dirty Bomb, looks like a multiplayer shooter with brief seconds that actually look a lot like BRINK... art style wise... or I might be interpreting it wrongly. FTL: Faster Than Light Review - Boldly Going Where No One Has Gone Before Thingie
After my best run in the game, my ship was left with two crew members. A human named Steven, and a bug(Mantis, a race of... bugs) named Charlie. They stood in the med bay not being able to get out. Stuck in a ship, far in the deep reaches of space. The oxygen generator was busted and the ships O2 levels dropped to 0%. Moving out of the med bay would mean certain death. So there they stood in space... FTL is rather unforgiving that way. The recently released on Steam indie title is what they call a space ship management game. It's not a genre that's common... at all.

StarCraft II Global Play Detailed - Play In Any Regional Server
I wrote about news of cross-region play for StarCraft II back in May. Blizzard got back to StarCraft II players with this post detailing how global play will be handed "Each region will have separate profile data, meaning that characters, profiles, ladder rankings, progress, and friends lists will not carry over from region to region. With Global Play, you’ll have other regions to choose from as you create new characters, take on different ladder opponents, and perhaps try maps that you’ve never seen before." What this means is that you'll need to create a new character for each region you want to play in. You can't import your present character to the other regions. Patch release date? In the coming months...

Bioware Confirms Mass Effect 4 In Early Development
Is anyone shocked by this news? Bioware stated prior to release of Mass Effect 3 that it will be the end of the Shepard story. Mass Effect 4(this is probably working title) will probably be a brand new story set in the Mass Effect world. Or will it? Mass Effect Lead Designer, Casey Hudson asked on Twitter "We’re in early stages of designing a completely new Mass Effect game. What would you want to see in it?". No info, but a completely brand new Mass Effect game s hint enough that this will not be about Shepard. Bioware also spoke a little about the upcoming single player DLC for Mass Effect 3, Omega, which they say is the biggest DLC in the series taking you back to the space city Omega, a den of scum and villainy. The Omega DLC is releasing end of this month.

The Elder Scrolls Online Developer Diary Introduction - Debuts Gameplay Footage
Bethesda + Zenimax Online's The Elder Scrolls Online has finally got some form of video content in the form of this introductory video diary. Silt Strider spotted! It's cool that we'll be able to explore all of Tamriel, and the graphics does looks rather spiffy, but there's been much trepidation from the Elder Scrolls crowd. Will it translate into an MMORPG or will this just be another WoW clone in Elder Scrolls clothing? They say combat will be tied to your mouse buttons much like in Skyrim, and you can play from any of 9 races with a tonne of customisation. One mega server where everyone plays on, and set 1000 years before Skyrim. Yay or nay? To hard to tell. Watch the video below...

Diablo III Expansion In Development & StarCraft 2: HoTS Release Window
In an Activision earnings call, Blizzard President Mike Morhaime confirmed that Diablo III will be getting an expansion(shocks) and that development on this is underway. He also stated that StarCraft 2: Heart of The Swarm will be slithering its way to the PC in the first half of 2013(that's a huge window). Bobby Kotick from Activision boasted that Diablo III has shipped 10 million copies worldwide. Blizzard really love to take their tie with their games but with that sort of revenues, they frankly don't need to think much about release dates. I'll stick to playing Torchlight II.

Metro: Last Light & Company of Heroes 2 Pushed Backed to March 2013
THQ today announced that Metro: Last Light and Company of Heroes has been pushed back to March 2013. THQ president Jason Rubin said "Our fourth quarter releases are the first titles that I have had the ability to materially impact, and experience told me that games needed addition development time to be market-ready,". More of a 'releasing the game when it is ready' philosophy, which is good. THQ has been under severe financial pressure lately and it is evident they have a strong Q1 2013, if only the game get shipped by that time, it might save THQ.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive Free Weekend - Get Schooled By Pros
For those one the fence or still hanging on to Counter Strike 1.6, Valve is giving you the chance to play Counter Strike: Global Offensive free, just for this weekend. It has got plenty of local servers to play on and new updated graphics and game modes. Some game modes I find absolutely useless like classic casual... avoid like a plague unless you like being shot at right after spawn. You can download it here. The game is also discounted just this weekend, 50% off at USD9.99. Practise mode is pretty useless, the bots are dumb at the moment. So this free weekend is pretty useful. Check it out.

Grand Theft Auto V Release Date Set As Spring 2013 - No PC Release Yet
Rockstar confirms that Grand Theft Auto V will be heading to the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 in Spring 2013. In a post on their official forums "we're currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don't have any details to share about a PC version at this time". As a general rule of thumb, Rockstar has always focused on consoles and often ported their game to the PC a year later. My hope is for Grand Theft Auto V to be released on the PC as a solid port with no performance issues. I guess we PC gamers will have to wait for quite a while.
