S.T.A.L.K.E.R was a game notorious for it's apparent long development cycles. The game was in development for what seems to be an eternity. When the game was released, many features were cut and the game fell slightly short from what was promised(it was still a phenomenal game). GSC Game World has released an earlier build of the game(build 1935)that has some of the cut features(and levels) as a free download. You can download it here or here
Take note that this is an old build and features were cut FOR A REASON. Make sure to read the installation notes. Installation notes below:
Installation instructions
1) Download the files from one of the links below and extract them to a new folder
2) Delete the 'savedgames' folder
3) Run the game with run_alife_s.bat
4) Download and extract these files to the build folder for better visual effects
